Large Outside Fire at Former Steel Mill

Yesterday evening, July 31st, our members were out in the district conducting our annual hose testing when at approximately 1930 hours #BCoFD Engine 57 (Sparrows Point) called in they were investigating smoke coming from the former steel mill site. E57 found a large pile of debris and scrap involved with a significant amount of fire and requested a firebox assignment. This brought Engine 271 and 272 to the scene. Engine 271 was the 2nd unit to arrive on scene and began the initial water supply operation. Engine 272 arrived shortly after and assisted with drafting and tanker operations to have a constant water supply at the fireground. Command requested a working fire profile and tanker strike team, due to a lack of hydrants on the property. Multiple special calls for extra resources were also requested. Various units from all over Baltimore County and mutual aide from Anne Arundel County Fire Department and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services along with Fireboat 1 & Fire Rescue Boat 1 from Baltimore City Fire Department also responded. Our units operated on scene for more than 5 hours with Engine 271 clearing around 0045 hours. Brush 276 & Utility 277 also operated on the incident with a total of 13 #wavfc volunteers operating. The smoke from the incident could be scene for miles. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Good evening folks. Just as expected, the heavy rains impacting the area have caused flooding of roadways throughout Dundalk. There is a Flash Flood Warning in effect until later this evening, so if you must go out, please do not attempt to drive through any standing water, no matter how shallow it may seem. Even as little as an inch of moving water can cause your vehicle to move and you to become trapped. Stay tuned to your local media to stay updated on the projected rainfall, as the rain is only expected to get worse as the evening progresses. As always, our crews are staffing the station, but we would rather keep them dry and have you be safe at home. #turnarounddontdrown

Thank You Papa Johns Dundalk

Someone called in a prank order to Papa John's Pizza on Merritt Blvd and instead of letting the 10 pizzas go to waste they graciously donated them to the firehouse. We thank them for their generous donation. #supportthosewhosupportus
